Gourds

Over the past few years I have been buying gourds every time I visit my Mother in Hotchkiss, CO but this is the first year I have done much with them.  I have quite a few dry ones and even more drying in the garage.  They are pretty labor intensive to start because they must have a layer of skin and sometimes mold scrubbed off before they can be worked with.

"Maple"

I traced real maple leaves, then burned the lines.  I used acrylics mixed with metallic glitter to paint in the leaves and polyurethane over it all.

"Raven's Pot"

This gourd already had a big crack in it, so I cut the opening around that, but I think it was already weak because other cracks soon appeared.  I got some of them glued before I even painted it, but then I dropped it and a couple others appeared.  This was just acrylics with poly over it.  The inside is lined in black felt.
